Definition
An ideal partner profile is a short description of the type of partner most likely to succeed with a vendor. It lists traits such as customer base, services, size, skills and region. Vendors use it to decide which partners to recruit and where to spend their time.
An IPP is the partner version of an ideal customer profile. It works best when it comes from the traits of partners who already perform well, not guesses.
A useful IPP includes both fit and signs of interest. Fit covers who the partner sells to and what they already sell. Interest covers signals like hiring for a matching skill or asking for a demo.
In practice
A cloud email security vendor finds its best partners are MSPs with Microsoft 365 practices serving small businesses, so it writes that into its IPP and scores new prospects against it.
