Deal registration

Definition

Deal registration is a process where a partner tells the vendor about a sales opportunity it found and asks to be recognized as the owner. If the vendor approves it, the partner usually gets extra discount or protection from other partners on that deal for a set time.

Deal registration rewards partners for finding new business. It also gives the vendor early sight of pipeline it might not otherwise see.

Programs set their own rules. These include what counts as a new opportunity, how long approval lasts and what happens when two partners register the same deal. Slow or unclear approvals are a common complaint from partners, so speed matters.

In practice

A VAR learns a school district plans to replace its endpoint security, submits a deal registration in the vendor's portal and gets approval with added discount for 90 days.
